Celebrity Couples Who Had Courthouse Weddings: Biebers, More

Publish date: 2024-07-04

Keeping their big days small! While some celebrity couples relish in the spotlight on their wedding days, others have stayed more private.

In October 2022, Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt announced that they got married at a courthouse in New York City following their engagement on season 7 of Bachelor in Paradise. The pair later revealed how they decided to take the leap.

“We started the wedding planning process and we were like, ‘This is gonna take a while. Why don’t we knock out the marriage thing?'” Amabile explained to cohost Tia Booth during an episode of their “Click Bait” podcast. “We thought it would be fun. We had some friends that did it.”

The twosome initially intended to keep the milestone private, but they shared the news via social media the same day they made it official. “We were so dressed down,” Pitt explained on the podcast. “We were wearing masks. We were like, ‘There’s no way anyone’s gonna see us.’ But it’s this big room before you go into the individual room with so many people [waiting] that we were kinda like, ‘OK, there’s a chance.'”

Fellow Bachelor Nation alum Natasha Parker served as the couple’s witness, but the reality stars already have something special in mind for the rest of their friends and family. “We haven’t picked a location yet,” Amabile exclusively told Us Weekly in November 2022 of planning a second ceremony. “We’re between Austin, Texas, Charleston, [South Carolina], or Nashville. … If somebody wants to pay us to put it on TV, let’s go.”

The Chicago native teased: “ABC, if you’re listening, if you wanna make something happen, we’ll chat. But right now, I think we’re just gonna go ahead and keep it private.”

Like Pitt and the former Bachelorette contestant, Justin Bieber and Hailey Bieber (née Baldwin) became husband and wife at an NYC courthouse. The couple wed in September 2018 — three months after their engagement made headlines.

“They are still in the middle of deciding whether or not they want a big or small wedding,” a source exclusively told Us in October 2018. “They would love a small wedding, but they have so many people that they want there and they know once they start planning, it could become bigger.”

Their second star-studded bash took place in September 2019 in South Carolina, with guests including Kendall Jenner and Scooter Braun. “It [was] core family and friends and under 100 people,” an insider revealed to Us of who made the list.

Though their initial wedding day was relatively under wraps, the Rhode founder and the “Peaches” crooner’s relationship has been anything but private. After referring to her marriage as “hard work” during an August 2022 interview, Hailey clarified her perspective.

“The whole sentence of what I said was, ‘He’s my best friend, I love coming home to him, but yeah, it takes work because I’m 25 years old and I have a life and a career and my own friends so trying to balance my wants and needs and hopes and dreams while meshing my life with another human who has his hopes and dreams and career,'” she said on “Call Her Daddy” in September 2022. “We’re busy people and we want to be in a marriage and we’re making it work. Sometimes it’s hard. How does it not make sense?”
