Dior Spring/Summer 2024 Couture Paris: Beauty Hair and Makeup

Publish date: 2024-09-13

Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Spring 2024 haute couture collection for Christian Dior—which hit the runway in Paris on Monday—was a celebration of aura and shine. Moiré fabric lent a luminous quality to the meticulously crafted trench coats, jackets, trousers, and red-carpet-ready evening gowns. In terms of beauty products, one might think a collection devoted to catching light would take the form of dewy cheeks or glossy hair. Instead, Dior subverted expectations with the coolest black eyeliner look, a touch of lip balm, and the on-trend addition of a ribbon in the hair.

“It is a two-step eye look, emphasized by a strong smoky liner on the lower lash line, and brightened by a light shade on the eyelid,” Dior Makeup creative and image director Peter Philips said. “Eyes looked both intense and soft.”

Black eyeliner isn’t new to Dior’s runways. It was seen most recently at the house’s haute couture and Spring/Summer 2023 shows, and has become a staple of Chiuri’s beauty aesthetic. What makes the Spring 2024 haute couture eye look different is that it appears only on the lower lash line and waterline, and it is also far more dimensional than just a swipe of a liner pencil like the Diorshow On Stage Crayon Kohl Liner. Artists were seen layering the deepest chocolate shade from the Diorshow 5 Couleurs in 539 Grand Bal to the lids, which added a bit more texture. Smoky but never messy, this is a makeup look that is equal parts refined and sexy, both classic and cool.

The rest of the makeup look was easy: defined brows, fresh skin, and a swipe of balm that was shiny enough to look like the must-have Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil, a favorite of the TikTok generation’s. (It was actually the new Rouge Dior Balm in #000 Satin.)

And fear not: The hair bow trend isn’t going anywhere. On the Dior runway, black ribbon was tied across the hair like a headband, and secured in a bow at the nape. The rest of the hair was pulled into a low braided chignon. This was the perfect effortlessly feminine touch—and a call to action to start saving every piece of black ribbon you encounter ahead of spring.
