[Report] Dallas Cowboys-Philadelphia Eagles Sunday Night Game Averaged 13.90 Million Viewers
It wasn't the most highly-anticipated Sunday Night Football game, but the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles brought in high ratings for the NFL and NBC once again.
According to Dino-Ray Ramos of Deadline, the Week 8 contest between the NFC East rivals averaged 13.90 million viewers, with a 3.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic.
Although both teams entered the game with losing records (Dallas 2-5, Philadelphia 2-4-1), it somehow held massive playoff implications. That's because the NFC East has been the worst division in football this season.
The winning team would have taken the lead in the division. The Eagles cruised to a 23-9 victory over a Dallas team that was playing third string quarterback and rookie Ben DiNucci, who struggled mightily in his first NFL start.
DiNucci, replacing an injured Andy Dalton who remains in concussion protocol, completed just 21 of 40 pass attempts for 140 yards and zero touchdown passes. He was also sacked four times.
Maybe it wasn't the most exciting matchup, but the Cowboys and Eagles play in two of the NFL's biggest markets. NBC gets at least one Cowboys-Eagles game every year, and their contests always draw high ratings.
With the victory, the Eagles moved to 3-4-1 to strengthen their division lead. The Cowboys fell to 2-6, their third straight loss. The Washington Football Team is second in the division with a 2-5 record, while the New York Giants fell to 1-7 following their Monday night loss to the Tom Brady-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The television ratings for NBC's Sunday Night Football program have been very strong in 2020. Last week's thrilling overtime contest between the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals reportedly recorded over 12 million viewers.
The Week 6 Sunday Night Football game between the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers reportedly drew 9.43 million viewers. The week before, viewership for the Seahawks-Minnesota Vikings game reportedly brought in 11.42 million viewers.
This week's Sunday nighter will be can't-miss television: Brady's Buccaneers will host Drew Brees' New Orleans Saints, with first place in the NFC South on the line.
